2017 closed with very high demand for housing across the entire Bay Area region from Gilroy to Novato, East Bay included. Large homes dropped slightly in price as the market favored smaller homes. One clear explanation is larger families are less likely to move during the holidays so their homes come off the market. To close out the year there were only 288 units available across our county, with sales of 70 units happening per week. This is the lowest inventory for our area in over a generation of record keeping. I expect prices to continue their upward trend throughout the rest of 2018 and possibly the first half of 2019. Let me know if you need any advice on how to navigate the market or create a plan for the future.

California's proposed federal tax cap work-around, unveiled
California's attempt to skirt the GOP's new $10,000 cap on local and state tax deductions is officially in play.
Senate leader Kevin de León on Thursday introduced legislation to allow Californians to make a charitable donation to the state — to the California Excellence Fund — in exchange for a dollar-for-dollar state tax credit. In other words, people would be able to donate to the state instead of paying taxes. The new tax law Congress passed last month does not place a cap on deductions for charitable giving.
